So my mom is thinking about getting a XV Cross Trek.

Right now she has a 2012 Impreza Touring with a CVT, but the XV has to have a manual. She likes that it is more easy to get in & out of. She got the CVT since me & my sister just started driving at the time so she wanted something that we could drive easily. My brother got his license 2 years ago, started driving manual 3 months ago. My sister still can’t.

Now that me & my brother can drive manual she wants a manual. I’m trying to steer her to a orange Cross Trek w/ a sport pkg. This be her first manual car since her 1990 Taurus SHO. If she follows though we have 3/5 cars in our house have manuals (My brothers/my old Sonic, my Juke, and her possible XV). The automatics are my dads Ram 2500 cummins, and my sisters VW Rabbit.

A good friend of mine just got a 2016 Crosstrek. I like a lot of things about them, but ultimately, I think they are cheap, cheap, cheap. Get in the backseat, and close the door. The door panel feels like it’s about to pop off when you pull it shut.

She don’t car about that they are cheap. She just drives to work, the grocery store & church. All of those are within a 10km radius of our house.

The door is over there. Leave your oppo card on the table on your way out.

No hatch, and too sporty (she hates sporty). She drives to work, church & the grocery store. Thats it. If they made a WRX Crosstrek maybe she consider it.

I had one as a loaner after I blew the motor in my WRX. I thought it would be terrible, but was pleasantly surprised (doubly so because it had the CVT). I never sat in the back though, but Subaru isn’t really into luxury or really just high quality interiors.

They’re slow, overpriced junk. At least go for a Forester.

Oh don’t get me wrong. It felt good, looked good, rode good. But corner cutting is one pet peeve I cannot shake. My 2014 Taco has plenty.

Its the same exact door panel she has in her 2012 Impreza right now.

I feel like the door closing noises and feel of my wife’s 2016 Impreza hatch are light weight but quality. Hers is a Sport Limited with the leather and whatnot so don’t know if that’s more nicely sound deadened or what. There are some cheap details to the interior but overall it’s a perfectly decent place to be. We took it on a road trip from Madison to Minneapolis and back and it performed admirably.

No hatch FTL... I don’t know what kind of suicide SOA is trying to commit... Ok, maybe not a full suicide, because I know Subaru is returning record sales, but an enthusiast suicide.

No, I meant you can feel the entire door panel bulge in before the door pulls shut. I don’t know what it is, because I have a buddy with a 2014 Impreza and I’ve never felt the door panels bulge like that.

The 2017 Crosstrek is still the old Impreza instead of the new 2017 Impreza. My wife drives a 2016 Impreza hatch and honestly neither of us liked the extra cladding or ride height of the Crosstrek. Her car is way easier to get in and out of than my lowered BMW 335xi coupe. All things relative I suppose.

But really the main reason we went with the 2016 is because we got it back in April, Subaru was running super low lease rates, and the 2017 Impreza wasn’t going to be out by the time the lease on her previous car, a 2013 Civic, was ending.

I don’t see the sense in getting a Crosstrek which is very much the same car as what your mom already has when the 2017 Impreza is now (or soon will be) readily available.

For her driving style perfect, and she probably buy a used one. She drove a forester when looking at her impreza, and she did not like it.

She would probably buy a lightly used example. She likes that it has more ground clearance for the snow, and the extra hight makes it easy for her to get in & out.

I’ve never felt what you’re describing when I’ve ridden in the back seat of our Impreza.

Well yeah, I guess I’m more confirming your Impreza experience than arguing with ya. I dunno. I’m tired and this is the internet.

Ummm, I would suggest not doing a used example unless it has already had the short block replaced or has lots of warranty left. (Just a little FYI from a Subaru Dealer)
